Alan McGilton
Alan has over 28 years experience in the Insurance and Financial Services industry and is currently Business Development Executive Manager with the specialist outsourcing firm, OSG Group. Alan has been instrumental in developing OSG’s lean business strategy over the last few years. As a result of this strategy OSG is now an Enterprise Ireland supported company and in 2012 received a Deloitte Best Managed Company Award. Alan is also a member of the Ethics Committee of The Association of Compliance Officers in Ireland (ACOI) since its formation in 2010.
Alan regularly lectures on Insurance and Ethical matters and organised a series of well attended seminars on Corporate Governance, Risk Management, Regulatory Compliance, Data Protection and Environmental issues between 2007 and 2009. Alan is a Masters of Business Administration graduate from Henley Management College in the UK, holds a Diploma from the Chartered Insurance Institute and is a member of the Marketing Institute of Ireland and Institute of Management Consultants and Advisers. Prior to his role in OSG, Alan had his own consultancy business for a number of years and spent over 16 years in Hibernian Insurance/Aviva in addition to roles in insurance brokers both in Ireland and the UK. He has a particular interest in Strategic and Critical Thinking and is a Mind Map advocate for over 15 years.
Jimmy Doyle
Jimmy is a treasury specialist who has 25 years experience in the corporate and banking treasury sectors. In September 2010 Jimmy retired from his position as Director, Treasury in Bank of Scotland (Ireland) Ltd. where, as a member of the bank’s senior Treasury team, one of his main responsibilities was the development of the corporate funding business.
He was previously treasury manager of Irish Life Assurance plc then Ireland’s largest life company and fund management house. He has extensive experience of treasury management from both the corporate and bank viewpoint. He has been involved in the development of risk management, interest rate and foreign exchange hedging and funding strategies in his role. Prior to becoming Treasury Manager at Irish Life Jimmy worked as Funds Accountant in the Investment Division. He also spent a number of years as Portfolio Manager for a number of Irish Life’s large pension fund clients and was responsible for the management of the relationship with the Funds’ Trustees and the asset allocation decisions for these funds. He is a Commerce graduate of University College Dublin and has professional membership of the Association of Corporate Treasurers (UK). Jimmy is a founder member and former President of the Irish Association of Corporate Treasurers (IACT) and continues to serve on their board. In 2008 the IACT bestowed Honorary Life Membership status on him in recognition of his work in the development of the treasury profession in Ireland. This was only the third time the Association has bestowed such an honour in its 24 year history. He is a director of the European Association of Corporate Treasurers. He is IACT’s representative to the International Group of Treasury Associations and has been elected Chairman of that body for 2011. He also serves on the Editorial Panel of TMI magazine. Jimmy lives in Dublin, Ireland and is married with two grown up children. His leisure activities include reading, travelling, hill walking and golf. He is a member of Delgany Golf Club.
Jean Hellewell
An independent insurance professional, Jean is a chartered insurer specialising in business development, underwriting, reinsurance and maximisation of capital. Previously, Jean held senior management roles with Santam Europe Ltd, HSBC Insurance (Ireland) Ltd and HSBC Bank plc. As an insurance professional and independent non executive director, Jean now brings her industry experience to manage regulated companies writing cross border non life business.
Denis Hevey
Denis was formerly CEO at the Insurance Institute of Ireland for fifteen years. Since his appointment in 1995, the Institute grew rapidly to a current membership in excess of 13,500. The Institute, as the leading professional body for insurance in Ireland, is committed to its Members’ professional development, primarily through its comprehensive education and CPD programmes.
Prior to joining The Insurance Institute of Ireland, Denis worked with The Institute of Certified Public Accountants (CPA) in Ireland, responsible for Membership Services. During this time he developed and introduced a comprehensive membership programme for the Continuous Professional Development of Certified Public Accountants.
Denis has been on the Governing Council of The Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) for 10 years and on its Management Committee for 12 years. With over 90,000 members, the UK based CII is the world’s leading professional organisation for insurance and financial services. He has been on the European board of National Institutes for Professional Insurance Education (EIET) for 14 years.
Denis is a Founder Director of the Professional Standards Advisory Board – General Insurance (PSAB-GI), the organisation charged with professional development and statutory compliance in General Insurance. He is both a founder and current member of the Qualified Financial Advisor Board (QFA) in Ireland and of the Confederation of Financial Services Institutes in Ireland (CFSI). He is a long-lasting member of the Professional Association Research Network at the University of Bristol (PARN UK) and the European Training Network (TMS).
Denis is a Founder Director of the Association of Compliance Officers in Ireland (ACOI), a current member of its Finance Committee & Education Committee. The ACOI provides a forum in which compliance officers can exchange information on best practice in the area of statutory compliance. Denis strives to serve the Association by fostering access to Education & supporting the provision of Compliance training and development opportunities throughout the insurance & financial services sectors in Ireland.
Denis is a former Captain in the Irish Defence Forces, with distinguished service at home and overseas with U.N. He is a Fellow of The Institute of Certified Public Accountants, holds a B.Comm from University College Galway and an MBS in Financial Services from University College Dublin.
He is a keen sports enthusiast having played both Gaelic Football and Rugby at underage representation level and now coaches some of the next generation in his free time.
Denis is married to Phil and has a son and a daughter.
